What’s The Point Of Colon Cleansing?

March 31st, 2010 -- Posted in Health | No Comments »

There have been a number of positive benefits attributed to colon cleansing over the years.  They include but are not limited to an increase in energy, decrease in headaches,  and weight loss.  The theory basically, is that after years of use, the walls of the large intestine end up with a toxic build up, that the body simply can’t get rid of.  To the lay person, it sounds reasonable, when you consider all the nasty stuff that passes through those walls over the years.  As, there has yet to be a lot of clinical study to approve or disapprove this practice, you can be sure that there are a number of opinions floating around as to the benefit of a colon cleanse.

It’s a practice that has been around since ancient times, and has gone through periods of popularity, and has also fallen out of fashion.  In the 1920s and 30s, it was quite popular, and is again so these days.  Likely due to our increased public awareness of health and staying fit.  It does seem to fall under the category of something that won’t hurt any to try.  I’m a strong believer in learning for yourself, as opposed to believing what everyone tells you these days.  Reading some colon cleanse reviews online may be a good place to start.  One of the arguments that the critics like to make against colon cleansing, is that the walls of the intestine actually shed themselves every three days or so.  This would seem to suggest, that the body is taking care of itself.  Other organs of the body, such as the liver are also responsible for taking care of any toxins in the body.

All things considered it probably can’t hurt to give it a try.  Of the thousands of cleanses performed every year, very few side effects are reported.  As with any health advice, it’s always best to check with your own personal doctor before proceeding.  They understand your condition better than any book or website could, and will always have your personal health best interests at heart.  I know my Dad had one a few years back, and thought it did wonders for him.  He was pretty amazed at the skill of the professional that performed it for him, and how much they were able to tell about his overall health history during and after the procedure.

Are Acai Berries A Scam?

March 31st, 2010 -- Posted in Health, nutrition | 1 Comment »

Well, I’d say scam is probably too harsh a term, but if you want to try acai berry products, I doubt you’ll do yourself any harm.  I’ve been conscious of my fitness and health all my life, and must say that I strongly believe in the old school way of staying in shape.  That is don’t eat crappy foods, and get your butt off the couch at least 3 times a week to do some physical activities.  While acai berry weight loss may or may not be a myth, it’s not the only game in town.

Diagnose My Skin Rash, Or Find The Actual Cause?

March 29th, 2010 -- Posted in Skin Care | No Comments »

Can I sometimes diagnose my skin rash myself, or must I seek the guidance and counsel of a medical doctor? Will a medical doctor inform me about the actual cause of eczema, or just the symptoms?

This article is meant to answer the questions many people who experience eczema outbreaks might have. What triggers eczema outbreaks is not the same as what actually causes eczema. This is pretty important to understand. A lot of different things can trigger a skin rash to appear, but if you have a chronic eczema condition there is a reason for that.

If you come into contact with some chemical substance and a rash appears sometimes afterwords it’s pretty safe to assume that it was the chemical that caused your skin rash. Especially if the skin rash disappears by itself, and it never happen again. continue reading »

Hair Thinning Remedies – What Are Your Possibilities?

March 29th, 2010 -- Posted in Hair | No Comments »

If you have recently found out that you are losing your hair, then surely you must have also looked for ways to do something about it. Nobody likes losing their hair. There is hardly anybody out there that didn’t care when his hair started thinning. Men suffer from hair loss more often than women do.

Men lose hair in a specific pattern. When this condition occurs, it is called male pattern baldness. Hair starts to recede at the hairline and sometimes also on top of the head. Hair loss is caused by DHT, which our bodies naturally (and unfortunately) produce. DHT makes the follicles shrink and the hairs die off. continue reading »
