Meditation for Beginners – 3 Tips to Get You Started

September 4th, 2010 -- Posted in Health | No Comments »

Many people suffer from a high amount of stress, anxiety and insomnia. That isn’t a big surprise: everything moves faster than it used to be ten years ago. People constantly have to check email, take phone calls, or attend meetings. Everyone has a tight schedule now.
Attending a short meditation for beginners class would be very beneficial to almost everyone. Read on: this isn’t only for New Age people.
In the last few years, meditation has been studied by medical professionals. Real experiments have been conducted and proven the positive health benefits of mindfulness and meditation.

Still don’t believe me? Try it yourself!
Here are some simple steps that will help you to get started:

1) Sit up straight.
You don’t have to sit in a lotus seat if you don’t want to or can’t. Just sit there with your spine straight up and feel comfortable. Make sure to turn off all distractions before you start. Tell your family or room mate that you’re busy for the next 20 minutes.

2) Breath.
When you are comfortable with your seating position you are read to get started. You can close your eyes if you want to, but it’s not necessary. Take a deep breath and try to focus. Breath very slowly feel how the air streams in and out of you.
Try to relax and don’t think about your worries.

3) Focus on the breath.
Now you should try to focus on the breath and nothing else. This will be very hard in the beginning. Your mind will start to wonder what you’re doing and will tell you that what you’re doing is stupid. If you start to listen to it, just notice it and focus on the breath again. Don’t get angry at yourself when you’re unable to focus. A good way to keep your focus is to count your breath. But you will still lose the count after several breath. If that happens, just take another deep breath, relax, and redirect your focus to the breath.

Botox Treatments For Younger Looking

September 4th, 2010 -- Posted in cosmetic surgery | No Comments »

The ability to remain ageless and timeless is always a hot topic these days.  Botox treatments are one such option which provides the ability to remain youthful through the use of various injections to desired areas.  Botox comes from the Clostridium Botulinum bacteria, and actually happens to be the same bacteria that can cause botulism.  However, it is important to understand that this version of this bacteria used in Botox injections is a purified version, which removes the toxin making it safer for human use.

Botox is injected with the aid of a plastic surgeon into the muscles of the face.  It is intended to smooth the little lines and wrinkles associated with aging, and provide a more youthful appearance.  Generally the most sought after areas on the face include the eyes, areas around the mouth, and the forehead.  The injections do require periodic reapplication, as the procedure typically lasts for approximately four months at a time.  The results however are remarkable as they generally are visible in as little as a few days, or as much as a week after the procedure is complete.

At the time of injection there is a temporary immobilization of the muscles which receive the injections.  This does not usually last long.  Botox is intended to smooth the inner muscles, thereby smoothing out the facial lines and wrinkles to a given area.  There may be some other botox side effects to the procedure such as numbness to the area, swelling, bruising, and even burning sensation.  This may take place at the time of the injections or shortly afterward.  Some patients also feel nauseous or headachy afterward, but these effects generally disappear quickly.  The more experienced and better the plastic surgeon, the more likely unpleasant side effects can be avoided. Timeless youth can be just a simple procedure away.

Christian Alcohol Treatment Centers and Rehab

September 3rd, 2010 -- Posted in Healing | No Comments »

Christian alcohol treatment centers have the additional feature of incorporating Christian values into its program. These centers treat alcoholism from a holistic viewpoint that includes more than medication and following strict rules. Christian addiction rehab goes beyond detoxification to provide individual counseling, support groups and other factors that help get to the source of an addiction problem.

Christian treatment assumes a spiritual void in an addicts life, so Christianity is offered as a source of salvation and strength that a recovering addict can use on his or her journey to recovery. This is to help the recovering person to not fall back on weaknesses that led to the addiction in the first place. These centers also get the families of the addict involved in the recovery process. It is important that family members understand the process the treatment entails so that they can continue to offer support throughout the program and after it is over.

Usually Bible verses, quotations and excerpts are read aloud to patients during the detoxification and rehabilitation process to help them learn and remember Bible teachings. In addition, they may attend Bible study, spiritual workshops and other such programs that are focused on teaching Christianity and offering solace for patients. In other words, even though methods used in typical twelve-step programs are incorporated, Christianity is the primary cure to overcoming addiction. Recovering patients are also encouraged to do the same for others once they have left the program.

There are Christian alcohol treatment centers based all around the world. There are many ways to find local centers including the National Drug and Alcohol Treatment Referral Routing Service that offers a substance abuse treatment facility locator that can be searched according to location. Once a location is found, a prospective patient, friend or family member can check to see if the facility is Christian based.

Why You Need To Treat Your Sore Jaw Now

September 3rd, 2010 -- Posted in Natural Healing | No Comments »

If your jaw isn’t hurting that much, you might think it’ll go away in a little while and it might do that. But a lot of the time, the causes of a sore  jaw get worse and worse. Why? Because the causes are usually habit based, meaning that you will consistently make your jaw worse by behaving the way you are right now. This is why it’s important to get the the bottom of why your jaw is sore and figure out what you’re going to do about it.

There is a jaw condition called TMJ syndrome that affects a huge amount of the population. This condition is usually the cause of all sorts or jaw and teeth pain. It can go so far as to affect the back and neck and even cause damage to hearing. The causes for this condition are varied, but stress, past trauma and bad posture are big factors. By improving yourself in these areas you will make huge inroads and maybe even completely get rid of your sore jaw.

So first things first, if the pain is persisting you should go and see y our dentist or doctor. Failing that you need to start avoiding high stress areas as much as possible, exercising regularly and eating right. These things might not seem that effective, but you’ll be surprised how much of a difference having a healthy lifestyle makes to not only your jaw, but your entire body.

As well as this you should also try using TMJ exercises. These are exercises designed specifically for TMJ sufferers. The exercises relax the tension in your jaw while building up the strength of any weak muscles you have in that area. This allows your jaw to start function the way it should by aligning itself properly and so relieving tension and pain. You might also want to consider going to a acupuncture clinic and getting some of that done. The effects of this treatment are simply incredible and shouldn’t be discounted by limiting beliefs.

So now you know why it’s important to not get lazy with your sore jaw. Find out what’s causing it and do your best to get it fixed. If symptoms are allowed to develop, it can lead to extreme jaw clenching and teeth grinding. Ultimately, some people have jaws that continually dislocate causing large amounts of pain. You definitely don’t want this, so get out there and start working out that jaw.

Tips for a Successful Weight loss Diet

September 2nd, 2010 -- Posted in Weight Control | No Comments »

While dieting to lose weight is one of the most popular means of achieving the goals that people set for themselves, it so often happens that many don’t get the success they are looking for. Why is this when there is so much good information and so many great diets available?

Far too often, diets are broken for a variety of reasons that can easily be avoided if the dieter only knew some of the simple tips that can make their diet a success. Here are some easy weight loss tips that can really help to make that happen.

Drink Water

Drinking a glass or two of water before each meal sends signals to the brain to tell you that you are not so hungry. When you subsequently eat your meal, you will feel fuller, quicker and not be inclined to go back for a second helping.

Don’t Get Distracted

When you are eating your meal, avoid all distractions and put all of your focus on the meal itself. Studies have shown that when you fully concentrate on your meal, including being aware of the flavors and textures of each bite, you feel fuller sooner and you digest your food more completely. Distractions such as the TV, computer, reading a newspaper or magazine or even talking to other members of the family takes your concentration away from your food and you barely register that you have eaten it, leading to less efficient digestion, eating faster and storing more fat.

Eat Slowly

When you eat slower, you give your digestion a chance to process your food and you also give your brain a chance to keep up with your stomach filling up. The “full” signals get to your brain sooner and you are less likely to eat more than you need. A great tip to slow down your eating is not to have any fast music playing, even in the background. Fast food restaurants play music with a fast beat because it makes customers eat faster, finished sooner and out of their chairs ready for the next ones.

Brush Your Teeth

A great trick to prevent late night eating is to brush your teeth early on in the evening. It’s a psychological effect that brushing teeth at night signals that you are done eating for the day and you tend not to feel like snacking afterward. So doing this earlier can cut out the feeling of wanting to grab a late snack.

These are really simple weight loss diet tips that can make a huge difference to your diet’s success rate. The calories they save add up at the end of the week and could mean the difference of a few pounds in lost weight, which is well worth putting in the effort to achieve.

How meditation can improve your health

September 2nd, 2010 -- Posted in Natural Healing | No Comments »

Scientists have been studying the results of meditation since the 60’es and have found no negative side effects, but only a lot of benefits. Meditation used to be surrounded by mystery, but even the most skeptical scientists are convinced today. Actually there is no good reason not to meditate if you care about your health. Let me give you a couple of reasons.

First of all meditation is an opportunity to sit down and relax each day. In our modern society where everything is getting faster and faster we rarely take the time just to relax and when we do we often just distract ourselves with TV, internet or something else. When we establish a daily meditation practice we allow ourselves to unwind and most people become calmer during the entire day.

One of the best ways to prevent stress and do something about being stressed out is meditation. Many of the leading hospitals in America teach meditation for beginners to people dealing with serious stress related illnesses. The side effects of stress reduction are many and psychologically we become better at breathing and using the oxygen in the air we breathe. We also need less sleep and reduce the risk of heart disease.

Psychological benefits usually appear gradually and are most noticeably in those that have meditated for a longer period of time. They tend to become more spontaneous and creative, to better deal with negative emotions and experience them less often and for shorter periods of time. And generally become more easy going and relaxed.

If you look at the market place it’s obvious that meditation has come to stay and many products like meditation chairs are available to make your meditation more effective and comfortable. When traditional wisdom, scientists and the market agree on something it’s usually a good sign. And if you care about your health I hope you too see the benefits of a daily meditation practice.

Choosing A Marijuana Treatment Plan

September 1st, 2010 -- Posted in Natural Healing | No Comments »

The use of marijuana across the western world has increased greatly over the past decades, with many people regarding it as a soft drug without consequences and that you cannot become addicted to. Many people regard themselves as recreational users, who smoke from time to time but don’t have any dependence on the drug. For some people it may be true that they are not addicted and could stop any time they want, but for others marijuana treatment will be required to stop.

THC, or delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, is the psychoactive constituent of marijuana, and the content of this in the drug has increased greatly over recent years. Also, more and more people are smoking ganja or hashish, which is up to 5 times stronger than regular marijuana. These users are the ones who are most likely to become dependent and in such cases, a marijuana drug detox may be required. This means going cold turkey and stopping marijuana use altogether.

Although withdrawal from this drug will not be as troubling as heroin or alcohol withdrawal, it can be very uncomfortable and if a user is unsupported during their withdrawal period the symptoms may instigate a return to drug use. The best marijuana treatment plan involves support from peers, removing yourself from bad influences or friends that are likely to provoke a relapse and joining a support network, such as one of the 12 step programs, so that you can meet people who are experiencing what you are.

In some cases therapy may be required to prevent relapse. Cognitive behavioral therapy has proven itself to be very effective in the treatment of marijuana dependence as it helps users find a way forward without resorting to drug use. Usually, no form of medication is required. However, if the patient has been a particularly heavy user, the marijuana may have caused the person to develop a psychiatric disorder, and in this case some medication will be required.

The first step, as always, is deciding that you want to make a change or that you need to make a change and the best person to approach in the first instance is your doctor, who can help you decide what the best course of marijuana treatment is for you.
