5 Great Ways to Detoxify The Body

Detoxifying our bodies will often bring back a new life to us, providing a greater sense of well being, increased energy levels and the feeling of being ‘clean in our skins’. Here are 5 of the best ways to help clear out the debris of modern life as a result of processed food, polluted air, water and food.

Exercise to Detoxify the Body
Regular exercise is a fundamental method for detoxifying. Exercising raises our heart rate and gets the blood flowing to the cells in every extremity. If there are cells that the blood does not reach then they will not be nourished or able to detoxify. Toxins need to be released from the cells into the bloodstream to be removed from the body.

If done correctly, cardiovascular exercise should make us sweat and sweating is a great way to detox. The skin is called the second kidney by some doctors and health experts because of the amount of toxins that can be released through the skin. Sweating greatly increases the amount of toxins released.

Drink Water to Detoxify the Body
Drinking enough water every day is also another fundamental for detoxification. We should drink at least 8 x 8oz  glasses of water each day to keep flushing out the toxins. If we don’t drink water regularly then we are at risk of reabsorbing the toxins that are sent to the bowels and kidneys for elimination. It is also important to drink spring water or filtered water. Tap water contains heavy metals and other chemicals – which are the very things we are trying to get rid of when detoxifying the body!

Eat Cruciferous Vegetables Every Day
Cruciferous vegetables include broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, kale and collard greens. Cruciferous vegetables help detoxify the body by mechanism of the antioxidants they contain called sulforaphane  and indoles. These antioxidants stimulate the liver to greatly increase its production of detoxifying enzymes and is the main reason why cruciferous vegetables are usually a key ingredient in any detox program. It cannot be understated the profound effect such vegetables have to detoxify your body.

Go Organic to Detoxify the Body
When possible and where budget allows go for organic food. Fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts and pulses that have not been grown organically are treated with pesticides and herbicides that contain harmful chemicals. So eating organic gives the liver a break from these chemicals allowing the body to possibly begin dealing with the back log!

Juicing to Detoxify the Body
A glass of juice before breakfast or in between meals is a great aid in detoxifying the body. Juicing mechanically breaks down the fibers in fruits and vegetables releasing more of the antioxidants from them for us to digest (very easily) and absorb quickly into the blood stream. Such a potent and rich supply of antioxidants greatly enhances the immune system and its detoxifying abilities. It is important that the juicing recipes are made at home and that you drink them right away. The antioxidants and enzymes in commercial juice are mostly destroyed by processing methods.
