5 Simple Tips to Steering Clear of a Workout Rut
It’s tough to break out of a workout rut or even just to get yourself started with a workout routine in the first place.
1. Don’t allow yourself to make excuses. It’s the easiest way of getting out of working out. I don’t have time, I need to do errands, I don’t feel like showering again after and so the story goes. There are a million reasons to skip your daily workout, but if you cut out the option to make an excuse you end up with no reason to skip it.
2. Think of it like washing your face or brushing your teeth. Working out is one of those things we all need to do on a daily basis just as a normal healthy part of our everyday living.
3. Something is always better than nothing. If you’re sore or have the sniffles or you simply feel unmotivated one day, you should still find a way to do some sort of exercise. Maybe you just take the dog for a half hour brisk walk or you cut your workout time in half. Staying in the groove is the biggest battle for most of us, but find a way to keep your routine going even when life or attitude get in the way.
4. Keep track of your workouts. Keep a workout journal describing what you did each day. It’s a nice way to keep yourself accountable and it’s tough to see a lot of blank spaces if you’re really serious about your exercise plan. The thought of leaving today blank might be just enough to get you on the treadmill.
5. Keep it simple. You don’t need expensive equipment or a gym membership to get in shape. If you have digital cable, you probably have access to on demand exercise tv. Try a new at home workout or do some simple exercises like jumping jacks, mountain climbers and sit ups while you watch some trashy reality tv.
