Waxing is a great way to get rid of unwanted hair, particularly as you generally don’t see any regrowth for a few weeks and so you don’t have think about hair removal too often. The only problems with it are the pain of ripping the hair out from the roots and the stickiness of the wax! But as usual there are solutions for everything. If you follow these guidelines you will feel less pain and have less mess to clear up.
1. Choose a Professional Waxing Product
Many salons use the GiGi brand of wax but the wax made by the well known hair removal brands such as Veet and Nair are also good.
2. Go For warm Wax
You will generally get much better results with a warm wax kit than with cold wax or strips. This is because the wax opens up the pores a little and also soothes the skin.
3. Heat the Wax to the Right Temperature
It’s important that the wax is heated enough to be fluid and stick to the hairs but not so hot that it burns the skin. It is best to use a thermostatically controlled electric wax warmer to heat the wax to the right temperature but failing that, use caution if you use a microwave wax or heat wax on the stove and follow directions carefully about testing the temperature.
4. It’s all About Direction
Smear the wax onto your skin in the same direction that the hair grows and pull it off in the opposite direction after you have applied the strip. If you use the wrong direction you will soon be able to tell because you will get a very patchy result!
5. Reduce the Pain
After you remove your strip of wax, immediately follow with a smooth massaging motion to soothe your skin and take away the immediate pain. Also avoid waxing in the days around your period as you will be more sensitive to pain around that time.
6. Keep the Mess Down
Protect the area where you are waxing with lots of old towels and use a commercial wax removal product to get rid of sticky residue from your skin.
