Blast from the Past

It’s a cool, lazy afternoon. I’ve been staring mindlessly at the computer screen for at least three hours, a bag of chips resting on the table. I have abused Facebook and Youtube for quite some time now.

I think back to the days when I spent all my free time out in the streets playing with my childhood friends. I can’t help but smile at the memory of how tomboyish I was; taking part in bike races with my brother’s friends.

So I logged off the computer, changed clothes, and took the bike for a spin for about half an hour. I kept doing that every other day until one of the neighboring construction workers borrowed the bike.

But boy, was I refreshed! The change of scenery and the exercise really did me good.

It turns out that aside from lessening the time I spent on the computer frying my brain, a bicycle had many other benefits as well.

Bicycles are actually awesome pieces of fitness equipment. I found out later that cycling a couple of miles a day assures trimmer and more toned muscles. This is because your upper thigh muscles, backside and calf muscles all get to work out. Cycling has also been known to be effective for people fighting cancer and diabetes, ensure a control in the level of blood pressure, build your stamina, minimize the risk of coronary heart disease, and, enhance one’s overall fitness.

While you’re trying to achieve your goal of having a nice, toned body, you are unknowingly triggering boosts of euphoria-producing hormones called endorphins. In other words: Biking helps fight depression.

Also, biking is a completely clean form of transportation. The only fuel burnt is the fuel in your love handles. Cycling is also quiet, a major bones for those of us suffering from the incredibly irritating effects of noise pollution. Now, I`m not saying that you should use a bike to travel from one district to the other, but, if where you`re going to a place not really that far away and you aren’t carrying anything heavy, then why not?

So, here’s my weight loss tip for you: grab a bike and take it for a spin. You won’t just be helping your health and happiness, but the environment as well.
