What are the Benefits of Omega 3?

Omega 3 supplements have received a lot of attention recently so is it a good idea to take them as a supplement or do we get enough of this fatty acid in our usual diet? One problem that has arisen recently is that a lot of publicity on the dangers of mercury poisoning from fish has made many people eat less of this excellent food which has consequently lowered their intake of fatty acids like Omega 3. This is unfortunate as two or three servings of coldwater fish a week, while still well below the limit deemed dangerous for mercury poisoning, is enough to ensure adequate intake of these nutrients. So should we be taking it and what are the benefits of Omega 3?

Many people however do not like fish, which is the best source, so for both of these reasons there is quite a high level of deficiency of these essential fatty acids in our diets.

Some benefits of  Omega 3 fatty acids?

Fish oil supplements contain both EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid both of which have been shown to be beneficial in reducing cardio vascular disease, heart attacks, heart rhythm problems and hardening of the arteries. It is important however to stick to the recommended dosages as too high an intake can have some harmful effects, mainly to do with blood clotting. These two acids together are called Omega 3 fatty acids and are polyunsaturated acids (the good kind!).

These fatty acids also lower triglyceride levels, as shown in clinical trials and increase HDL (high density lipoproteins – the good kind)! There is also some evidence that they may be helpful for some problems associated with rheumatoid conditions such as joint pain and stiffness. Other research has shown that they may be beneficial in helping the slow the deterioration in patients with Alzheimer’s disease.

Omega 3 Foods

In addition to taking supplements you can eat foods rich in Omega 3 fatty acids such as herring, mackerel, sturgeon and anchovies, walnuts, Chinese cabbage, canola oil, kidney beans and spinach.

Children and Omega 3

Clinical trials have shown that supplements containing Omega 3 have a beneficial effect on the learning abilities of children with ADHD. The University of South Australia in cooperation with an Australian government body found that 40% of children who had ADHD and suffered from behavioral problems improved significantly when given these supplements.

In conclusion, if you are not eating enough of the foods rich in Omega 3 and other fatty acids you may like to investigate whether you would benefit from taking a supplement such as Omega 3 fish oil.

Can Wu Long Tea Help You Lose Weight?

If you are trying to lose weight, you would probably do just about anything to make it easier.  I know I would!  I have tried everything from Atkins to Body for Life.  When it comes down to it weight loss really consists of a very simple concept – eat less and exercise more.

From time to time, however, something comes along that can make the process a bit easier.  Wu long tea is such a product.  Now, it isn’t a magical potion that will make you lose weight in your sleep as some websites would have you to believe.  But, if you are making a solid effort to lose weight, wu long tea is a fat burner that can help you speed along the process.

There are as many as 37 scientific studies that have been completed to examine the impact of drinking wu long tea on weight control and all of them support this statement.

In a Chinese study it was shown that women who drank wu long tea for 6 weeks lost an average of three pounds.  I don’t know about you, but I’ll take a weight loss boost of ½ pound a week!

You may have already heard that drinking green tea has been clinically shown to help you burn fat.  A Tokushima School of Medicine research study has actually shown that drinking wu long tea is more than twice as effective as drinking green tea.  So, if you want to increase your metabolism as much as possible, it makes sense to drink wu long tea rather than green tea.

Is a Water Fast for You?

To accomplish good health, folks have been practicing the process of water fasting for thousands of years. Hippocrates and other great minds like Plato, Socrates and Gandhi have all used fasting as a means of cleansing and regaining health. Jesus and Moses achieved renewed spirituality when they completed a 40 day water fast.

Human physiology studied in modern times has backed up the healing and powerful health effects that fasting can accomplish. It is a therapeutic tool that is valuable and powerful.

To embark on a water fast, one must consume nothing but pure, fresh water for a period of time not to exceed 10 days. Staying hydrated and drinking enough water becomes even more vitally important while performing a fast.

Through the use of water fasting, health conditions can improve and often heal. Ailments such as allergies, chronic headaches, high blood pressure, diabetes, uterine fibroids, acne, inflammatory bowel disease, to name a few, can all be improved by employing fasting in order to cleanse.

When we fast we are providing our system with the physiological rest that it needs. It gives our bodies the opportunity to rely on its own healing mechanisms, which are quite powerful. By taking a break from the constant and strenuous process of digestion, fasting provides a valuable gift to our digestive systems.

The simple goal of purging built up toxins and cleansing cells is achieved through fasting. Taking measures to strengthen the intestinal mucosal lining found in our digestive tracts improves our body’s inherent ability to ward off autoimmune conditions.

Our blood and inner organs can be affected by toxins present in our environment. Consuming nothing but fresh pure water for a few days can restore vitality more quickly.

However, water fasting should not be looked at as a lifestyle change but rather a method of cleansing. Once you have completed a fast, you must resume your lifestyle by eating healthy foods. One way to incorporate nutrients into a water fast is to consume freshly pressed vegetable juices during your fast. This can keep you strong and nourished and help to provide a deeper method of cleansing to your body.

As with any fast or diet regime, it is important to consult with a qualified health professional prior to beginning.
