With so many weights benches to choose from it can be difficult to know exactly which one is the best. Let’s take a look at a few things to consider so that we make the right choice.
If you are going to bench press or perform squats then a weights bench with squat stand is probably the best choice. We need to ensure that we have a rack to lower the bar on to. Although this is still not as safe as a power rack it is still better than no rack.
We could otherwise invest in a set of cheap squat racks and a flat bench. This may actually be the better choice as it will mean we have a lower position for the bar. This means that rather than having to push the bar up to rest it we can put it on to the pins in the lowered position instead. This is much safer as if we perform a heavy set then we may not have the strength to push the bar back up.
And this is very dangerous. So the best choice really would be a bench with a separate squat stand to lower the bar on or a bench and a power rack. But, as is often the case, it comes down to price. There is no doubt that the cheapest option is to buy a weights bench with squat stand all in one. They are not a perfect choice but they are a very affordable option and there is no doubt they will be the best pick for those of us on a budget.
Just ensure you never go to total failure with your sets or you may not be able to raise the bar enough to get it back on the rack, and this can be very dangerous. A spotter is ideal if you want to use this type of training equipment in more safety.
