Different Types of Hair Removal
There are lots of options out there when it comes to hair removal. Most are temporary and some are even quite painful. The key to understanding which method is right for you is to know about all the different methods available. The most common method of hair removal is shaving. This is very temporary and tedious. Most people have to shave their bodies every other day at least to keep a smooth appearance on their skin.
Another method is waxing which involves putting hot, sticky wax and paper on your skin and then removing it quickly to pull out the hairs. This is a very painful process, but it does have longer-term results than shaving usually lasting several weeks. However, it can really irritate skin and cause discoloration. Another method that is similar to waxing is plucking or tweezing. This method has the long-term results, but it is extremely tedious because you have to pull out individual hairs. Most people only do this on small areas such as between the eye brows. It is also very painful. Depilatory creams can also be used by removing the hair after applying a specific cream to the skin. This lasts a little longer than shaving, but it can be very messy and the smell is really bad. Sometimes it can even cause rashes or inflammation.
Another method of hair removal is electrolysis which works by inserting a needle into each hair follicle and sending electric current through the hair root killing it. This procedure takes a long time and is usually extremely painful. The main benefit is that it is pretty permanent, but another drawback is the cost. The final method of removal is known as laser hair removal and is achieved by shining a laser on the skin to be absorbed by the melanin in your hair. This method also kills the hair follicles and generally has permanent effects even though you might need a few maintenance treatments to keep it up. The cost of laser hair removal is pretty expensive though sometimes in the $400 or more range per treatment. One of the greater benefits of laser removal is that large areas of the body can be treated in a relatively short period of time.
