There is always a reason that drives a person when the decision is made to lose weight. Maybe your motivation comes from knowing that you are going to have to be healthy if you want to live long enough to see your children have their own children. Maybe you are tired of having to shop around to find nice clothes that fit. Whatever caused you to make the decision to start losing weight, you will find that as you lose more and more weight, your overall quality of life will improve. When you have been overweight for a long time, you begin to feel lots of different aches and pains as you go through your day. The lower back is particularly susceptible to this pain, as are the ankles and knees. The pain in the back and joints tells you that they are straining to bear more weight than they have evolved to handle. I was pleasantly surprised when I first noticed that many of those pains were going away and I wasn’t hurting like I was before. I found it surprising that it only took losing 10% of my weight to eliminate many of the pains that I had endured for years.
My weight was causing me embarassment every day in any number of ways, but those embarassments became less and less as I lost weight. You have probably experienced the particular kind of embarassment that goes with finding out publicly that a chair was too narrow to accommodate you. Maybe a small child shocked his parents by asking you directly what happened to make you fat. There are many more examples that I could have named, but these two are ones that almost everyone who is obese have been though at some point. I felt better about myself with every small victory, and I felt a rush every time I was able to do something that I couldn’t before. With every new goal that I surpassed, my strength and confidence grew.
Throughout society, you will find evidence of bias against the overweight; it is especially painful and hard to think about when you feel that bias yourself. At some point, almost anyone who is very overweight has tried to sit in a chair that was too small for them. The sad, but simple fact is that when the designer was putting that chair together, a person my size was not even considered. When you look at modern life, this idea can be seen everywhere, such as when you are unable to find clothes that fit or are unable to find a job because the employer is biased. People who are different have always been looked down on by the rest of society, no matter how cruel that is.
It does not matter what your weight loss goals are; you will be able to adjust your lifestyle in order to reach them. If you have a lot of weight to lose, success will require you to make quite a few changes throughout your lifestyle. Achieving your weight loss goals will be harder than you may think, but using effective weight loss solutions instead of miracle promises will get you there. Diets that work involve good sense and smart choices, not ridiculous restrictions.
