There are quite a number of causes for your dog to have itchy and dry skin. If you happen to notice, that your dog is doing a lot more scratching then usual, then you should spend a bit of time trying to figure out the origin of the itch. Which of course, is easier said than done. You kind of have to be a bit of a cross between a private detective and a veterinarian to come up with the answer. One of the things you should try not to do, is to irritate the itchy spot yourself. If you really want to find the cause, there are a few approaches.
In the meantime, try and make your dog as comfortable as possible. A bath with cool water will help ease the itch. Oatmeal, baking soda and perhaps epsom salts will help make your dog more comfortable. Avoid hot water, and excessive rubbing or drying of the afflicted areas. Oils can be of assistance with problem of which primrose oil can be very effective. Check with your vet or pet store as to where to buy these items. Dog dry skin can be deal with if you have the right products. We’ve been fortunate with our puppy and haven’t had any real problems. But, if you have dog itchy skin, at least it’s good to know there are a few alternatives to help resolve the problem.
