Properly built treadmills can have tremendous health benefits if you’re willing to find a treadmill that’s appropriate for your workout type. While many joggers and runners find simple pleasure in running in the sunshine and using a treadmill on rainy days, many people find it more convenient to have a treadmill in the home. Neither outlook on fitness is better than the other; it’s simply a matter of personal preference.
However, the person who runs outside in his or her own neighborhood is generally able to find terrain that’s not quite flat. There may be ups and downs on each street that will push the person to the limit. This type of interval training is not only good for cardiovascular health, it’s beneficial for the toning and building of muscle.
The person on the treadmill, however, doesn’t have these natural challenges available right off the bat. A treadmill that doesn’t have adjustable incline, for instance, won’t provide the interval training benefits that a natural run will. In this case, the person running or jogging outdoors will have a significantly easier time building overall cardiovascular health. It’s important for the treadmill user that the treadmill be equipped with pre-programmed workout programs, or at the very least, adjustable incline. While most treadmills have this functionality already built in, some of the very cheap treadmill models available on the market don’t necessarily have this functionality. It’s important that you shop around and find a treadmill that will challenge you to get into the best shape of your life.
