Stretch Marks and Surgery

Having stretch marks can be very troubling. This is especially true if your stretch marks are visible and are on the areas of your skin which are usually not concealed under your clothes. Stretch marks appear when the middle layer of our skin, called the Dermis, loses its elasticity due to repeated gaining and losing of weight. This also happens inevitable during pregnancy, as the skin over the abdomen is stretched to its limit.

The truth, however, is that most of these products are not effective. Stretch marks are not easy to remove at all. When these marks are raw, in their initial stage, they are red or pink depending on your skin type. This is the stage when there is a good chance of get rid of these stretch marks. Most stretch mark removal creams with retinoid will do the trick. Also, keeping the skin moisturized will help in producing more collagen to make the skin more elastic. However, once these marks are white or are a few years old, the best way to get rid of them is to either hide them using make-up or by getting laser surgery for stretch marks.

These surgeries are often very expensive but are definitely effective in erasing stretch marks forever. These work by using a laser beam to penetrate inside the skin and lighten or smudge the marks from within. They aim to collapse blood vessels and by breaking those, the redness in the skin fades away. Some treatments are to boost the elasticity of your skin and to make collagen reproduction faster. The other kind of treatment is to trigger production of melanin so that the scarred area becomes similar in colour tone to remaining skin. This is more effective against old stretch marks. It is best to meet a dermatologist and find out which method is best suited for your stretch marks. There is no reason for these to hamper your self confidence or self image as you can seek professional advice and erase your stretch marks easily.
